40th Annual Meeting Call for Abstracts and Short Courses
The Society for Medical Decision Making is soliciting proposals for Oral and Poster Abstracts and Short Courses to be presented at the North American Annual Meeting being held Sunday, October 14, 2018 through Wednesday, October 17, 2018 in Montreal, Canada.
The deadline to submit proposals for Oral and Poster Abstracts and Short Courses is Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at 11:59 PM PT.
All submissions will be reviewed and notifications sent out in early August 2018.
Oral and Poster Abstracts
Oral Abstracts are offered in multiple concurrent sessions with up to 6 presentations per session. On average, 80 – 90 oral abstracts are presented at the meeting. Oral presentations are scheduled in 15-minute blocks and grouped in the categories listed on the guidelines page. The top rated oral abstracts will be presented following the Keynote Presentation.
Poster Sessions allow attendees to delve into and discuss the specifics of an abstract with the author in a one-on-one or small group setting. The Annual Meeting offers on average 240 total poster abstracts with approximately 60 posters presented at each session.
All accepted oral and poster abstracts will be published online in Medical Decision Making, SMDM’s peer-reviewed scientific journal.
The 40th Annual Meeting will be a Patients Included™ meeting, where patients will be in attendance and will appear as presenters. Additionally, SMDM is a multidisciplinary society and welcomes attendees such as policymakers. Please do your best to write about and present your work in a way that is understandable to an audience of peers and other experts.

Short Course Proposals
Short courses will be held Sunday, October 14, 2018 prior to the beginning of the Annual Meeting. SMDM offers a mix of full day and half day courses in the morning and afternoon.
Short courses offer a great opportunity to learn something new from leaders in the field, and can be geared to a fundamental, intermediate, or advanced level. Short course size is generally small, varying from 10-30 participants per course, depending on the materials being presented and hands-on work being conducted during the course.
SMDM is interested in short course submissions in all areas of medical decision making. SMDM encourages short course proposals in the areas of Decision Psychology and Shared Decision Making; Applied Health Economics; Health Services, Outcomes and Policy Research; Quantitative Methods and Theoretical Developments; Patient and Stakeholder Preferences and Engagement; and to support the Annual Meeting theme, Decision Making Across the Lifespan.
MDM offers rigorous and systematic approaches to decision making that are designed to improve the health and clinical care of individuals and to assist with health policy development.
