I have been coming to SMDM for the past 11 years and return every year because it’s the only society where research is presented, and training is provided on methods of informing medical decision making across the spectrum.
This includes analysis of data using a comparative effectiveness lens, to considerations for how to effectively communicate this data to clinicians, patients, and policymakers. Lessons I have learned from attending these meetings have shaped the way I practice evidence based medicine at the bedside, the way I train future physicians and colleagues in other medical societies, as well as the research questions I formulate and test to work toward supporting evidence-based and preference-sensitive decisions for our patients.
