Call for CVs and Job Announcements

If you are on the job market or have a job announcement, we welcome your submission to the Annual Meeting’s CV/Job book.  The book will be available for prospective job seekers and employers at the meeting and will also be emailed electronically one week before the conference to all conference attendees. The submission deadline is Wednesday, October 5, 2016.

Interested parties are encouraged to schedule informational and formal interview sessions during the conference, and we hope that this process will help facilitate planned informational and interview sessions.

Trainee Luncheon

This is a wonderful opportunity for trainees (graduate students, postdoctoral fellows and clinical fellows) attending the meeting to meet and talk informally with each other and with senior members of the Society. Attendees will meet in small groups and will speak with mentors and with each other for set periods of time. Mentors will share career development advice and discuss research interests. The lunch is held on the first day of the meeting so that these conversations can continue over the course of the meeting.

The ticket fee is $15.00 for trainees and $30.00 for all other attendees. You can pre-register for the trainee lunch with conference registration. Pre-registration is highly recommended to allow the organizers to group individuals according to their interests.

Mentoring at the North American Annual Meeting

As in previous years, the SMDM Career Development Committee is excited to offer a formal one-to-one mentoring program this year. Our one-to-one mentoring sessions at the Annual Meeting offer the opportunity for new meeting attendees, trainees, junior faculty, and others to meet and get advice from established members of the Society in an informal setting. The purpose of the program is to provide mentoring about career trajectory and research topics and establish new networks of colleagues. Other potential discussion topics could include navigating the Annual Meeting, presenting research, perceived strengths and weaknesses in your work or skills and advice on improvement. The mentoring sign up sheet will be posted here and e-mailed in late September or early October 2016.

Mentoring Meet-and-Greet at the North American Annual Meeting

Tuesday, October 25, 2016 (10:00 AM – 10:30 AM)

As another component to the one-to-one mentorship program at the North American Annual Meeting, mentees have the opportunity to meet mentors informally in groups during breaks in rooms divided as per core research specialties. There will be a room assigned to each research specialty during each break, allowing mentors to attend whichever time slot best suits their schedule. This will be an excellent opportunity for mentees to gain exposure to a broad group of experts and other mentees with similar research interests. Mentor/mentee matches can meet in-person during the breaks, while also allowing for other mentees and mentors to meet, who otherwise would not have had the opportunity to meet during the conference.
