German citizens or citizens of another EU member state do not require a visa to travel to Germany. (See Schengen Area information below.) You merely need to carry documentation that identifies you, either a valid passport or an ID card.
Schengen Area: Most EU countries allow unrestricted travel throughout the Schengen Area. Consult the list of Schengen Area countries to see if you will need a visa to enter the Schengen Area. For more information on visa and passport requirements, click here.
If you need to apply for a passport, or renew your passport, leave yourself enough time to do so as the application process can take up to 6 weeks. Additional fees apply for expedited services. To apply for a US passport, click here. For citizens of countries other than the US, please consult your local government for the passport application process. SMDM recommends that U.S. attendees register for the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP).
** It is the attendee's responsibility to confirm and acquire the proper travel documents for entry into Germany. SMDM does not refund conference registration fees for those denied entry into Germany.**
