Robert M. Kaplan, Ph.D., to serve as Chief Science Officer at AHRQ

AHRQ Director Richard Kronick announced that Robert M. Kaplan, Ph.D., has agreed to become Chief Science Officer at AHRQ.

April 4, 2014 -- Dr. Kaplan comes to the agency from the National Institutes of Health’s Office of the Director, where he has served as Associate Director for Behavioral and Social Sciences and Director of the Office of Behavioral and Social Sciences Research.

According to Dr. Kronick’s announcement, “In his new role at AHRQ, which will start on May 5, Bob will provide scientific oversight for research activities at the Agency, especially related to AHRQ’s safety, quality, and patient-centered outcomes investments. He will provide input on development of new research endeavors, as well as guidance on projects already underway. In addition, Bob will work on coordinating AHRQ’s research efforts with those of other Federal partners, such as CMS and ONC, and non-Federal groups, including the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute.”
