SMDM Announces Keynote Speaker for 2021 Virtual Meeting
Complex Considerations when Weighing Shared Decision Making in the Context of Health Equity
Biography:
Dr. Monica McLemore is a faculty member in the School of Nursing at University of California San Francisco. Her work considers reproductive justice and medical care for marginalized communities, with an overarching aim to eliminate healthcare inequalities. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. McLemore studied the impact of COVID during pregnancy. Her program of research is grounded in reproductive justice, a lens she uses to understand reproductive health and rights for people with the capacity for pregnancy. Her work is grounded in the hypothesis that if we center the most marginalized people, care improves for everyone.
She conducts research across the reproductive spectrum including birth, cancer risk, and family planning. Her work exemplifies a combination of nursing, public health, and policy research using community engaged and embedded methods to develop programs to test and deliver interventions.
