Short Courses are in-person, in-depth learning opportunities offered in conjunction with the SMDM Annual Meeting. These sessions allow participants to engage deeply with a focused topic in medical decision making through interactive, extended-format instruction. The format is half-day, workshop-style that provides a beginner, intermediate, or expert level overview of an MDM specific topic.
New for the 2027 Meeting: Courses for Clinicians and Practitioners
In addition to courses designed for the SMDM research community, we are specifically soliciting proposals for short courses aimed at clinicians and healthcare practitioners. Toronto is home to one of North America’s largest medical, health services research, and care delivery communities. The Society sees this meeting as an opportunity to bring SMDM expertise directly to local practitioners who may not otherwise attend. We especially welcome practitioner-oriented proposals in risk communication, shared decision making, decision psychology, and the role of cost-effectiveness analysis in policy and coverage decisions. We will advertise these courses to the broader Toronto healthcare community and to meeting attendees. Courses for the traditional SMDM audience, including methods-focused and trainee-oriented offerings, remain just as welcome. When submitting, please indicate your intended target audience (clinician/practitioner, researcher, or open to both), the course level, and the maximum number of attendees so we can match your course to the right room and promotion.
