‘From Hours and Minutes to Dollars and Cents’. Estimating the monetary value of children and young people’s time for use in economic evaluation

The AcademyHealth Child Health Services Research Interest Group (CHSRIG) and Decision Sciences for Child Health Collaborative (DSCCo) SIG are pleased to host a virtual seminar featuring Dr. Lazaros Andronis, PhD, a Professor of Health Economics at the University of Warwick.

Description: Comprehensive economic evaluations ought to account for all relevant resources, including those contributed by care recipients themselves. People’s time is such a resource yet, when it comes to children and young people (CYP), there are few suggestions on—and even fewer insights into—how to value and include their time in economic evaluations. This talk will deliver a ‘whistle-stop tour’ of recent work that investigates how CYP’s time can be captured and valued in economic evaluations. This talk will also summarize completed work packages, highlight ongoing activities, and present some first findings from choice experiments designed to get estimates of the value— in dollars and cents—CYP put on their time..

About the Speaker: Lazaros Andronis, PhD, is an academic health economist based at the University of Warwick in the UK. Dr. Andronis’s work draws on social sciences and health care research methods to answer economic questions about health and health care.
